Since many dangerous shoals have been removed, the Rhine flows peacefully for almost its entire length. It's the best cure for the pre-Christmas rush, and you'll be enchanted by the atmosphere of the castles, palaces and monasteries of the old towns that have festively dressed up in Christmas cheer. Tune in to Christmas time with baked apples, punch and music. All the 5-star facilities on board, a pleasant environment and, most importantly, the chance to explore a huge chunk of the Rhine basin in just a few days.
As of 2023, all cruises are international, meaning that all materials such as the ship's newspaper, menus, radio announcements, etc. are in English. Likewise, excursions are available with English-speaking guides and the on-board staff speaks English (mostly German as well).
Magical Christmas markets huddle together in narrow, tree-lined streets. Rüdesheim is in the Christmas spirit. Celebrate with a glass of punch! Or perhaps with one of the world-famous local wines? Frankfurt's tall Christmas tree proves that the city is as well off at Christmas as it is financially. One of Germany's most beautiful Christmas markets takes place every winter between the old Römerberg area and the historic St. Paul's Church. The market and the rest of the town are brimming with ideas for Christmas presents for loved ones. And for yourself. The Nikolos Market in Mainz has a history of more than 200 years. Today you can enjoy mulled wine and Christmas baking in the market square in front of the massive cathedral.
During your Christmas cruise, you'll visit the centre of Rhenish Romanticism, which once inspired poets and musicians. Brahms, for example, composed his 3rd Symphony in Rüdesheim. Culturally, the most famous place of the Rheingau has much to offer, including historic noble estates and fortifications. And of course the coffee speciality "Rüdesheimer Kaffee", which was invented here, is not to be missed on this day on the Rhine.
Frankfurt proves it can do Christmas and business with its tall Christmas tree. Between the Römerberg and the historic Paulskirche all the way to the banks of the Main, one of the most beautiful and oldest Christmas markets in Germany takes place every winter. The market and the metropolis offer plenty of material for gift shopping on this Rhine cruise. Regional products such as Bethmännchen, marzipan pastries with almonds or hot cider are particularly popular.
The panorama of the Middle Rhine Valley, which is a celebration in itself with its enchanting valleys and medieval castles adorned with mountains, will accompany you all the way to Koblenz. Bundle up in a scarf and hat - and hit the ice! At the romantic ice rink in the old Roman town, the smell of roasted almonds wafts through the air and the clatter of picturesque horse-drawn carriages mingles with the sounds of Christmas. We think: It doesn't get any more Christmassy than on this Rhine cruise.
