Join us on a river cruise, an increasingly popular way to spend your holiday. You'll love it too. All the all-inclusive 5* amenities on board, the pleasant surroundings and, above all, the opportunity to discover a huge part of the Rhine basin in just a few days.

BASIC - Cruise on the romantic Rhine (Aqua)

As of 2023, all cruises are international, meaning that all materials such as the ship's newspaper, menus, radio announcements, etc. are in English. Likewise, excursions are available with English-speaking guides and the on-board staff speaks English (mostly German as well).

Be enchanted by the South Rhine and discover its charms on a holiday spent on a luxury 5* ship.

Apart from the enchanting nature, look forward to Strasbourg in particular. Soak up the French flavour of life and try Alsatian specialities such as the delicious Tarte Flambée with a glass of fine wine.

Set sail from Cologne, which boasts the Gothic St Peter's Cathedral, famous throughout Europe. Cologne also hosts an annual Christmas market, which runs from November until Christmas. You can visit the Chocolate Museum, for example, where there is a chocolate fountain and a demonstration of the production of the finest quality chocolate.

You will pass through the Loreley Passage , which are rocks in the Taunus Mountains on the east bank of the Rhine. It is the narrowest point of the Rhine between the estuary and the Swiss border. The exact origin of the name is not clear, but the most likely variant is that it was formed by a compound of the Old High German "lureln" (to murmur) and the Celtic "ley" (rock). The murmur could have been caused by a waterfall that may have been present or by a rapid current amplified by a reflection on the rock. Loreley is also the name of a water fairy who, according to legend, lures swimmers to their doom with her song, much like the Sirens of Greek mythology.

Across the French border we head to the friendly city of Strasbourg in Alsace. Serving as an important crossroads thanks to the presence of the European Union institutions, we find a magnificent astronomical clock in the admirably rich historic centre, which launches the daily game of life at 12:30pm. At this moment you can see the different periods of human life, embodied by the child, the adolescent, the adult and the old man, passing by Death.

Itinerary

Day Place Arrival Departure
1 Cologne - 18:00
We will set off on our exciting Rhine cruise from here, heading for the northern or the southern Rhine. But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions. The best way is to arrive the day before your cruise departs, so that you can relax – or simply extend your stay in Cologne after the cruise has ended.
2 Rüdesheim 11:00 18:00
The town describes its biggest attraction, the world-famous Drosselgasse, as ‘144 metres of joie de vivre’. This centre of Rhine Romanticism once inspired poets and musicians – it was here that Brahms composed his Symphony No. 3. Rüdesheim is the best-known spot in the Rheingau and has plenty of cultural attractions, including stately homes and fortifications. And no visit to the towns and countryside of this area of the Rhine would be complete without a Rüdesheim coffee, which was invented here.
3 Germersheim (Speyer) 08:00 18:00
Welcome to the Upper Rhine. Germersheim is only about 20 km from the city of Speyer, which is over 2000 years old. Speyer is Germany’s oldest planned medieval town. Speyer’s most prominent monument is its cathedral. As one of the country’s most important High Romanesque cathedrals, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You are sure to have an enjoyable day in Speyer.
4 Strasbourg (Kehl) 08:00 18:00
Today your Rhine river cruise will call at Strasbourg – a centre of European policymaking. With its medieval half-timbered houses and its elegant city palaces, Strasbourg really stands out from the crowd. But the highlight is the cathedral. From its viewing platform, the city’s half-timbered houses appear as small as pieces from a model railway set. Enjoy your day in the French part of the Rhine region!
5 Mainz 06:00 12:00
Mainz bleibt Mainz (or ‘Mainz is always Mainz’) is more than a carnival motto. It is an expression of the easy-going way of life that makes the locals proud of their city, makes it easy for non-locals to settle in and helps visitors to enjoy their stay here. With 2,000 years of history, Mainz is not just one of the oldest cities in Germany – it is also a place where you can see history come alive wherever you turn.
5 Loreley Valley 13:00 -
The Ijsselmeer is an inland lake that was created by diking the Wadden Sea and the Zuiderzee bay. This is where you’ll find the lovely little town of Hoorn – make sure you explore it during your cruise along the northern Rhine.
5 Koblenz 18:30 21:30
Discover Koblenz during your Rhine cruise. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, making it one of Germany’s oldest cities – and one of its most picturesque, with a wealth of sights and cultural attractions. Marvel at Koblenz’s palaces, stately homes, grand townhouses, narrow lanes and romantic corners. And watch as our A-ROSA ship sails close to the famous Deutsches Eck headland.
6 Cologne 05:00 -

But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions.
