The Moselle has truly enchanted this landscape. In ancient times, the river carved out one of the most beautiful routes through the Rhenish Massif—a route full of graceful curves. The fertile slopes and forests have beautified the surroundings so much that you feel as if you’ve stepped into a landscape from Tolkien’s stories. Lush vineyards nestled between rocky cliffs and picturesque villages thrive in the ideal climate. The sunny and mild weather creates perfect conditions for a winemaking tradition dating back more than 2,000 years. It was here that the famous Riesling was born, which you can now find in the world’s finest restaurants. The picturesque villages give the impression that time moves more slowly here, and people enjoy the sun and the joys of life. Visitors feel as though they have arrived in a place where life slows down and everything has its time.

BASIC - Discover the Moselle (SILVA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as menus, public announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the crew on board speaks English (and usually German as well).

Cologne - There are many attractions to see, and they are all overshadowed by the cathedral, which, at 144.5 meters long and 157.38 meters high, is the third-largest church building in the world. The view of Cologne is definitely worth the effort of climbing the 533 steps of the cathedral tower. St. Martin’s Basilica is another fantastic sight. In front of it, the colorful houses of Cologne’s fish market seem to glow. Thanks to its location away from the hustle and bustle of the city center, you can enjoy the atmosphere of the old town here.

Trier - The city can claim the title of Germany’s oldest city and is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Romans left a lasting mark on Trier, and historic buildings from that era still shape the city’s appearance today: the amphitheater, the Römerbrücke bridge, the Igeler Säule (Igel) column, the Barbara and Kaiser thermal baths, the Constantine Basilica, and—of course—the city’s most famous symbol, the Porta Nigra. The name of this imposing former city gate is likely a reference to its weathered sandstone.

Koblenz - Discover Koblenz during your Rhine cruise. Its history stretches back more than 2,000 years, making it one of Germany’s oldest cities—and one of the most picturesque, with a wealth of historical, architectural, and cultural attractions. Admire Koblenz’s palaces, stately homes, churches, and historic buildings in the narrow, romantic nooks and crannies of the old town. As the A-ROSA ship approaches the famous Deutsches Eck, you’ll be captivated.

Itinerary

Day Place Arrival Departure
1 Cologne - 17:00
Welcome to Cologne! The typical friendliness that you find at every turn makes visitors feel at home right away. It’s not unusual to quickly get chatting to strangers and even go for a couple of glasses of Kölsch with them. The main landmark – Cologne Cathedral – watches over the whole city. It is the third-tallest church building in the world, at 157.38 metres. It might be a bit of a trek up to the top of the tower, but it’s worth it. You’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable view of the city and the Rhine spread out before you.
2 Cochem 11:00 17:00
Cochem, on the bank of the Moselle, is another port of call on your Rhine cruise, which will take you onto the Moselle. The entire Moselle region around Cochem is a real sight to behold. The town’s landmark is undoubtedly the famous Reichsburg, a splendid castle that towers above the river. But did you know that the West German government had a secret bunker built here for its federal bank? Strange, but true! And you’ll have the opportunity to visit it during your river cruise.
3 Trier-Mehring 09:00 23:59
Trier lies right in the Moselle valley, a region characterised by the typical Moselle vineyards. The city boasts many churches, castles and palaces, plus a wealth of historic monuments – with UNESCO World Heritage status. Enjoy your time in the city, explore the Moselle valley and learn about the history of Rhineland-Palatinate. And as another lovely day draws to a close, you can look forward to the next picturesque port of call.
4 Bernkastel-Kues 06:00 22:00
Experience the unforgettable atmosphere of a picturesque old town full of history and culture, as your Rhine cruise takes you along the Moselle. Enjoy award-winning wines from well-known sites – whether in one of the cosy wine bars, in a rustic wine tavern during a wine-tasting session with a winemaker, or during a tour of the steep vineyard slopes.
5 Koblenz 15:00 21:30
Koblenz is where you’ll find Roman history, a high-tech research hub and a buzzing cultural scene all in one place. Don’t miss the delightful Kaiserin-Augusta-Anlagen, the southern part of the Rhine promenade. It was turned into a landscaped park with artistic historical monuments and sculptures between 1856 and 1861. If you fancy a treat, try Debbekooche. Originally eaten by those who couldn’t afford goose on Saint Martin’s Day, it is now considered a regional speciality and is traditionally served with apple sauce. Delicious!
