BASIC - Discover the North Rhine on a modern e-motion ship (Sena)

In the spring of 2022, the brand new E-motion boat SENA will set sail, raising the standards and outpacing all its competitors among river boats by leaps and bounds. The new boat is ideal for those who love to sail and also want to help reduce their environmental impact. The E-motion boat is built with the vision of arriving in port with no emissions thanks to battery propulsion. Fuel consumption is reduced, which helps not to burden the cities along the route in particular.

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials such as the ship's newspaper, menus, radio announcements, etc. are in English. Likewise, excursions are available with English-speaking guides and the on-board staff speaks English (usually German as well).

Antwerp is a diamond city - but Rotterdam, Dordrecht and especially Amsterdam are also real gems. Where else do foreigners instantly feel at home? Where else are there crazy things on every corner? Bicycle bells mingle with music from open windows - and guests from the A-ROSA ship mingle with locals in pubs and restaurants. And then it's nice to move away from the hustle and bustle of the big city to the old Dutch villages with their quaint stepped gables and colourful fishing boats.

We'll anchor in Amsterdam, the famous capital and currently the largest city of the Netherlands. It is considered the financial and cultural centre of the entire country, mainly due to the 177 different nationalities that live here. The historic centre of Amsterdam is built up mostly with houses from the 16th and 17th centuries, known in the Netherlands as the Golden Age.

Equally interesting is Rotterdam - called the city of modern architecture because carpet bombing during World War II destroyed most of it, so it was and is being built up with modern high-rises. It is particularly famous for the Europort complex here, which is the second largest in the world and the first in Europe. There is also a Maritime Museum in the city centre, documenting the history of the port and shipbuilding.

During this cruise we will not miss the beautiful Antwerp, the centre of the diamond industry, the birthplace of the famous painter Peter Paul Rubens and above all the city of fashion and design. The landmark of the metropolis is the Gothic cathedral on the right bank of the Scheldt River, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, which took 269 years to build.

Between Friesland and the open North Sea there is much to discover: small harbours, endless white sandy beaches and water as far as the eye can see. The IJsselmeer is the largest lake in the Netherlands. Its shore is a great place for walks in the shallows, where if you're lucky you'll find oysters washed up at low tide. On land you can explore towns full of fascinating history, inspiring art and fun cultural attractions.

		We will set off on our exciting Rhine cruise from here, heading for the northern or the southern Rhine. But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions. The best way is to arrive the day before your cruise departs, so that you can relax – or simply extend your stay in Cologne after the cruise has ended.
2	Harbor tour Antwerp	-	-
	The Ijsselmeer is an inland lake that was created by diking the Wadden Sea and the Zuiderzee bay. This is where you’ll find the lovely little town of Hoorn – make sure you explore it during your cruise along the northern Rhine.

		The port city of Antwerp is an absolute must-see. Rich in art and culture, it is also known as the ‘Diamond City’ due to its important role in the diamond trade. Antwerp is particularly enjoyable for foodies, thanks to the many tasty Belgian specialities on offer there – including waffles, chocolates and chips.

		Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban, international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. In recent years, Rotterdam has become a centre for architecture – its large architect-designed houses testament to the city’s modernity. With a little luck, you’ll see other cruise ships during your day in Rotterdam, since Europe’s largest maritime port is a major transport hub.

When your Rhine cruise calls at Amsterdam, you’ll be able to discover a piece of history around every corner.  *In individual cases, the local authorities in Amsterdam may not confirm the reserved berths. If no berth is allocated, our guests will be provided with a shuttle bus to Amsterdam.
