When you arrive in Amsterdam by boat, you’ll immediately feel at home in this city on the water, with its network of canals lined with old merchant houses. And renting a “fiets” (bicycle) for the ride from the Old Dutch Masters to the Waterlooplein flea market is the perfect way to soak up the atmosphere. In Rotterdam, Amsterdam’s modern sister city, you’ll start to doubt your senses when you see cube-shaped houses tilted on one corner or when you look up and see giant raspberries painted on the ceiling. But the sight of the world’s third-largest port will bring you back down to earth. In the small but beautiful city of Nijmegen, you’ll find gorgeous parks, a carefully curated bicycle museum, and a museum you’ll visit in complete darkness: muZIEum offers a different kind of sensory experience.

BASIC - Mini Cruise in the Netherlands (BRAVA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as menus, public announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the onboard staff speaks English (and usually German as well).

Amsterdam - Few European cities are as diverse as Amsterdam, with its multicultural charm, historic canal district, and the highest concentration of museums in the world. Don’t miss the Rijksmuseum, which was restored to its former glory a few years ago after a decade-long renovation. Follow the locals’ lead and explore the city by bike, or take a canal cruise to discover Amsterdam from the water. Children of all ages will enjoy the NEMO Science Museum, where they can create bubbles big enough to fit inside, make licorice, and learn why water is transparent.

NDSM Shipyard Amsterdam - You’ve probably never heard of Amsterdam’s NDSM dock, but it’s an amazing place—especially for art lovers. Ships of all sizes used to be built and launched here, but today the site is a hub for young artists and visionaries. Disused trams provide space for creatives, and you’ll even find an old crane that’s been converted into a hotel. Locals have revitalized what used to be a somewhat gloomy area with graffiti and street art, creating a paradise for aspiring photographers. Admission is free, and you can get there via a free ferry service from the opposite bank of Amsterdam Central Station.

Rotterdam - The second-largest city in the Netherlands. Home to the continent’s largest seaport, it is a thriving metropolis that is not short on modern buildings or international charm. Over the past 20 years, a number of impressive new skyscrapers have sprung up here—and there is no sign that this trend is slowing down.

Itinerary

Day Place Arrival Departure
1 Cologne - 17:00
Welcome to Cologne! The typical friendliness that you find at every turn makes visitors feel at home right away. It’s not unusual to quickly get chatting to strangers and even go for a couple of glasses of Kölsch with them. The main landmark – Cologne Cathedral – watches over the whole city. It is the third-tallest church building in the world, at 157.38 metres. It might be a bit of a trek up to the top of the tower, but it’s worth it. You’ll be rewarded with an unforgettable view of the city and the Rhine spread out before you.
2 Rotterdam 10:00 19:00
Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban and international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. Be prepared to be amazed by the fantastic skyline, featuring the the Erasmusbrug bridge. Rotterdam is home to Europe’s largest port, as well as being a major transport hub. It's no surprise that this is a centre of contemporary architecture, featuring the famoust Kijk-Kubus, and the Witte Huis, which was the first skyscraper in Europe. Several impressive new skyscrapers have sprung up over the past 20 years.
3 Huizen 05:00 19:00
Welcome to the Dutch city of Huizen! The city is located on the banks of the Gooimeer, part of the IJsselmeer, and is known for its picturesque location, historic architecture and maritime atmosphere. Huizen has a rich history as a fishing village, but over the years the economy has diversified to include trade, tourism and services. Visitors can explore the charming old town with its traditional houses, cozy cafés, stores and marina. The surrounding nature offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and water sports, making Huizen a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.
4 Emmerich 08:00 16:00
The small beautiful town of Emmerich on the lower Lower Rhine gives you a nice time out on land during your cruise. Here you can take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy the magnificent view of the Rhine while discovering the "Golden Gate Bridge of the Lower Rhine", a suspension bridge spanning over the Rhine, which, just like its role model, can be seen from afar in vibrant red. Definitely worth taking a souvenir photo!
