A city holiday with rural romance.

From Cologne via Cochem, Trier-Mehring, Bernkastel-Kues, Koblenz, Nijmegen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, cruise through the port of Rotterdam and Emmerich to Cologne.

Sometimes you want to experience an exciting journey from city to city. And sometimes you want a relaxing holiday with lots of nature. And if you want both? Then you have to take the Rhine! In Cologne, you just wave your hand at the cathedral - and shortly afterwards at the EYE film museum in Amsterdam's harbour. From the berth just outside the main station, the canal city can be explored on foot. If you're in the mood for multiculturalism with all your senses, try the international cuisine for which Amsterdam is so famous. Rotterdam impresses with its modern architecture and huge harbour, where goods are brought in from all over the world. Then head to the old diamond city of Antwerp. A short detour to Cochem will spark the romance of the Mosel, and on the way back the castles of Bernkastel-Kues will tempt you. Trier is a wonderful place for hiking, and if you want to see the Rhine from above, the best way to do it is from the cable car that takes you up to the Ehrenbreitstein fortress in Koblenz. It's the perfect place for a nice view of the city and a nice look back at an unforgettable journey.

BASIC - North Rhine and Mosel (Silva)

Rotterdam is the second largest city in the Netherlands after Amsterdam and offers many opportunities: it is a colourful international port city with Europe's largest seaport, a university city, a city of excursions and shopping and a creative city of artists. And as you can see at a glance, it is a Dutch city of architecture with eye-catching buildings. The city's skyline is constantly changing, with new futuristic buildings proudly rising to the sky.

Despite being the second smallest district town in Germany, Cochem boasts a long tradition. Majestic witnesses to this history are the Imperial Castle of Cochem and the ruins of Winneburg Castle, each of which overlooks the city from its own small hill. There is also the Plague Chapel and the chapel "Zu den drei Kreuzen". Two places of remembrance that may not impress with their spectacular size, but with their elegant austerity and beautiful location.

How about escaping the hustle and bustle of the outside world in one of Amsterdam's many beautiful boutiques? While strolling through the many small shops in "9 Straatjes" you can do this in peace and without rushing! Let yourself be carried away by the individual boutiques and immerse yourself in the fashion world of the Dutch capital. A great recommendation is the Bijons Vintage shop, where you can pick up many a new favourite piece. Afterwards, enjoy a coffee and a dessert at one of the nicest cafés in the area: Café Pluk. Designed with love and playfulness, this café is the perfect place to recharge your batteries before exploring more of exciting Amsterdam.

Itinerary

Day Place Arrival Departure
1 Cologne - 18:00
We will set off on our exciting Rhine cruise from here, heading for the northern or the southern Rhine. But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions. The best way is to arrive the day before your cruise departs, so that you can relax – or simply extend your stay in Cologne after the cruise has ended.
2 Cochem 11:00 17:00
Cochem, on the bank of the Moselle, is another port of call on your Rhine cruise, which will take you onto the Moselle. The entire Moselle region around Cochem is a real sight to behold. The town’s landmark is undoubtedly the famous Reichsburg, a splendid castle that towers above the river. But did you know that the West German government had a secret bunker built here for its federal bank? Strange, but true! And you’ll have the opportunity to visit it during your river cruise.
3 Trier-Mehring 09:00 23:59
Trier lies right in the Moselle valley, a region characterised by the typical Moselle vineyards. The city boasts many churches, castles and palaces, plus a wealth of historic monuments – with UNESCO World Heritage status. Enjoy your time in the city, explore the Moselle valley and learn about the history of Rhineland-Palatinate. And as another lovely day draws to a close, you can look forward to the next picturesque port of call.
4 Bernkastel-Kues 06:00 21:30
Experience the unforgettable atmosphere of a picturesque old town full of history and culture, as your Rhine cruise takes you along the Moselle. Enjoy award-winning wines from well-known sites – whether in one of the cosy wine bars, in a rustic wine tavern during a wine-tasting session with a winemaker, or during a tour of the steep vineyard slopes.
5 Koblenz 15:00 21:30
Discover Koblenz during your Rhine cruise. Its history dates back over 2,000 years, making it one of Germany’s oldest cities – and one of its most picturesque, with a wealth of sights and cultural attractions. Marvel at Koblenz’s palaces, stately homes, grand townhouses, narrow lanes and romantic corners. And watch as our A-ROSA ship sails close to the famous Deutsches Eck headland.
6 Nijmegen 14:00 22:00
The Romans astutely identified the ideal location along the Rhine River nearly 2,000 years ago, laying the foundation for the oldest city in the Netherlands. Today, this Hanseatic city captivates visitors with its rich historical sites and the vibrant energy brought by its thriving student population. Nijmegen's liveliness extends to its city beaches, where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of its unique surroundings.
7 Amsterdam (Lelystad*) 06:00 23:30
Amsterdam is an incredibly varied city. It’s old yet modern, relaxed yet bustling, and arty while also being commercial. With almost 7,500 listed buildings, it has the highest concentration of historical monuments in the whole country. When your Rhine cruise calls at Amsterdam, you’ll be able to discover a piece of history around every corner.  *In individual cases, the local authorities in Amsterdam may not confirm the reserved berths. If no berth is allocated, our guests will be provided with a shuttle bus to Amsterdam.
8 Rotterdam 08:00 16:00
Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. Known as ‘Manhattan on the Maas’, it has a more urban, international atmosphere than anywhere else in the whole country. In recent years, Rotterdam has become a centre for architecture – its large architect-designed houses testament to the city’s modernity. With a little luck, you’ll see other cruise ships during your day in Rotterdam, since Europe’s largest maritime port is a major transport hub.
8 Harbor tour Rotterdam 16:30 -
The Ijsselmeer is an inland lake that was created by diking the Wadden Sea and the Zuiderzee bay. This is where you’ll find the lovely little town of Hoorn – make sure you explore it during your cruise along the northern Rhine.
9 Emmerich 09:00 15:00
The small beautiful town of Emmerich on the lower Lower Rhine gives you a nice time out on land during your cruise. Here you can take a stroll along the promenade and enjoy the magnificent view of the Rhine while discovering the "Golden Gate Bridge of the Lower Rhine", a suspension bridge spanning over the Rhine, which, just like its role model, can be seen from afar in vibrant red. Definitely worth taking a souvenir photo!
10 Cologne 06:00 -
We will set off on our exciting Rhine cruise from here, heading for the northern or the southern Rhine. But you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore this cathedral city, with its wealth of monuments and attractions. The best way is to arrive the day before your cruise departs, so that you can relax – or simply extend your stay in Cologne after the cruise has ended.
