Where does Cologne’s tradition of good cheer come from? Perhaps the Romans brought it to the Rhine nearly two thousand years ago. One thing is certain, however—cheerful Cologne is the ideal place to begin your New Year’s Eve cruise. Cities full of unique sights await you along the route. In Mainz, you’ll discover the cathedral and the Gutenberg Museum. You’ll ring in the New Year in Koblenz, where the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle, along with the majestic Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, creates a breathtaking backdrop for the fireworks. The ship then heads to Bonn, the former capital of Germany, where Beethoven’s House and the picturesque Rhine Park await you.

PREMIUM - A Magical New Year on the Rhine 2026 (AQUA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as the menu, shipboard announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the crew on board speaks English (and usually German as well).

Mainz - The Rhine meets the city of Mainz right between Lake Constance and the North Sea. This carnival city is known for its cheerfulness and hospitality. You’ll feel right at home here in no time. How about a stroll along the picturesque banks of the Rhine? Or a visit to Mainz Cathedral? It houses one of the richest collections of church furnishings in the Christian world. Among the most significant pieces are the tombstones of several archbishops and the altars. Another notable building is the Electoral Palace. It is a prime example of German Renaissance architecture.

Rüdesheim - the town describes its biggest attraction, the world-famous Drosselgasse, as “144 meters of joie de vivre.” This center of Rhine Romanticism once inspired poets and musicians—it was here that Brahms composed his Symphony No. 3. Rüdesheim is the most famous town in the Rheingau and offers a wealth of cultural landmarks, including manor houses and fortifications. And no visit to the towns and countryside of this part of the Rhine would be complete without Rüdesheim coffee, which was invented right here.

Frankfurt - “Here I am, man, here I dare to be!” – this quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe comes from Faust, but it also aptly characterizes his native Frankfurt. The city is a fascinating combination of a modern financial center with skyscrapers and a historic core with half-timbered houses and monuments. And when you’re in the mood for a moment of peace, just take a stroll along the picturesque banks of the Main River, which will enchant you with its unique atmosphere.

Frankfurt is also known for its many futuristic-looking high-rises.
