The art of living—L’Art de Vivre—centers primarily around food in France. Our expert chefs will introduce you to a French wine expert who is well-versed in the charms of local life and the region’s culinary diversity: from famous wines to aromatic herbs. You shouldn’t miss a visit to the market either; every stall offers the finest products and will proudly invite you to sample them. Wine tastings at local wineries are a must for wine connoisseurs. As you enjoy good food and wine with friendly people, you’ll lose track of time, and through conversation, sipping, and laughter, you’ll realize that this is the “art of living.”
All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as menus, shipboard announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the crew on board speaks English (and usually German as well).
Lyon - every beautiful cruise on the Rhône begins in Lyon, and there is a good reason for that: Lyon is a beautiful, modern city with an impressive Old Town and world-class cuisine. Lyon owes part of its culinary reputation to the acclaimed French chef Paul Bocuse, who made it the headquarters of his empire of brasseries, restaurants, and cafés. The city is known for its simple yet high-quality cuisine, which is based on regional products and has earned it the nickname la ville de guele (the city of flavors).
Avignon - you’ve surely heard of the famous bridge from the song—this bridge actually exists, or at least part of it: wars and floods have reduced the bridge’s original 22 arches to 4. In 1660, after another flood, the bridge was abandoned. Besides the bridge, you’ll likely be most delighted by Avignon’s palaces, wine, and culture. The Papal Palace is monumentally impressive, especially in the evening when it’s lit up.
Chalon—lies upstream where the Saône narrows, which is the turning point for modern ships. The pier is very close to the city center, so from the ship you can take a lovely walk directly to everything worth seeing here, such as the museum documenting the birth of photography here in Chalon, or St. Vincent’s Cathedral, which stands on the square of the same name—namely, in the heart of the historic center, on Place Saint-Vincent.
