This romantic route along the Main River offers the ideal opportunity to explore picturesque towns while also shopping and relaxing. It starts in Frankfurt with its lively city centre and exclusive boutiques on the Zeil. In Wertheim, the northernmost Franconian town in Baden-Württemberg, you will immerse yourself in the historic centre. Würburg is famous for its Baroque and Rococo buildings, especially the 18th-century Würburg Residence with its magnificent rooms, a large fresco by the Venetian artist Tiepolo and a richly decorated staircase. With numerous wine taverns, cellars and the characteristic Bocksbeutel brewery, Würzburg is the heart of the Franconian wine region. Another gem on the Main is Miltenberg, where you can stroll through picturesque streets and sample local specialities. Relax on a walk along the riverbank and enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the Main.

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials such as menus, radio announcements, etc. are in English. Likewise, the trips are available with English-speaking guides and the staff on board speaks English (mostly also German).

 

Wertheim - With its well-preserved city walls, narrow streets, richly decorated half-timbered houses and picturesque market square, Wertheim offers a relatively authentic look of the old Franks. The castle ruins rise high above the city and are among the largest in Germany. Karl Baedeker described Wertheim as the most beautiful point of the entire journey in his description of the Main River in 1862.

 

Würzburg - The wine from Würzburg is renowned and is definitely worth tasting. The city, located in a valley, feels like a "young old town" - more than 1,400 years of history blend here with a modern, lively environment. The dominant feature is the famous Würzburg Residence, one of the most important buildings of the late Baroque. Its Hall of Mirrors is often called the pinnacle of Rococo art. Thanks to the university and thousands of students, the city has a youthful energy - cafes, bars, concerts and unique "party cellars" that complete the charm of the local nightlife.

 

Frankfurt - "Here I am, man, here I dare to be!" - this quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe comes from Faust, but it also aptly characterizes his native Frankfurt. The city is a fascinating combination of a modern financial center with skyscrapers and a historic center with half-timbered houses and monuments. And if you want a moment of peace, just take a walk along the picturesque banks of the Main River, which will enchant you with its unique atmosphere.

		With its well-preserved city wall, narrow alleyways, richly decorated half-timbered houses and picturesque market square, Wertheim is quaint and relatively authentic. The ruined castle, perched on a hill, is one of the largest of its kind in Germany. In his 1862 account of the Main region, Karl Baedeker describes Wertheim as the high point of the entire trip. You can put this claim to the test yourself during your Rhine cruise.

		Würzburg is the home of one of Germany’s oldest universities. Situated right on the Main river, the city is dominated by the Marienberg fortress. Previously used to house bishops, the fortress has two museums in it today. The Würzburg Residence is one of the most important buildings of its kind from the late baroque period, and the Mirror Cabinet – a room inside – is considered the best example of a rococo interior.
