According to the atlas, there is only one Rhine, in reality there are hundreds of them, because each time it shows a different side. Sometimes gloomy, sometimes beautiful. Sometimes enchanting, sometimes powerful. No journey is as varied as a cruise on the Rhine. Townhouses, cathedrals, castles and palaces. Half-timbered, granite or sandstone? There is nothing here that does not exist. The Rhine lends itself perfectly to Baroque and Gothic architecture and looks great in photographs - but its home is among wild cliffs and dense forests, among knightly castles and wine-growing villages, whose vineyards it has fertilized throughout its history.

PREMIUM - South Rhine Experiences (CLEA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials such as menus, radio announcements, etc. are in English. Likewise, the excursions are available with English-speaking guides and the staff on board speak English (mostly also German).

Strasbourg - The Roman commander Drusus founded Strasbourg as a military base in 12 BC. Today it is a thriving metropolis that has preserved many small half-timbered houses and a historic old town. Even a quick glance at Strasbourg Cathedral will tell you that you are standing in front of one of the most important of its kind in Europe and one of the largest sandstone buildings in the world.

Frankfurt - Here you will find modern financial buildings stretching high into the sky, as well as an old town with historic buildings and half-timbered houses. And if you want to relax on this cruise, take a long walk along the beautiful banks of the Main River.

Basel - located right on the border between Switzerland, Germany and France, quickly became an important European hub thanks to its exceptional location. A well-known attraction is the oldest zoo in Switzerland. It is one of the most important zoos in Europe. Basel is also home to eight churches with historic organs, which still fill the naves of the churches with their beautiful sounds.

Mainz - The Rhine meets the city of Mainz right between Lake Constance and the North Sea. This carnival city is known for its cheerfulness and hospitality. After a few moments, you will feel at home here. How about a walk along the picturesque banks of the Rhine? Or a visit to the Mainz Cathedral? It is home to one of the richest church facilities in the Christian world. Among the most important pieces are the burial tombs of several archbishops and altars. Another important building is the Electoral Palace. From an architectural point of view, it belongs to the "German Renaissance".

Frankfurt is also known for its many futuristic-looking high-rises.

Today your Rhine river cruise will call at Strasbourg – a centre of European policymaking. With its medieval half-timbered houses and its elegant city palaces, Strasbourg really stands out from the crowd. But the highlight is the cathedral. Founded right on the spot where Switzerland, Germany and France meet, Basel soon became an important European hub and centre of trade due to its special location. A popular attraction in the city is Switzerland’s oldest zoo – which the locals affectionately call the ‘Zolli’. It is one of the most important zoos in Switzerland and has gained global recognition for its breeding programmes. Basel is also home to Switzerland's oldest university, 27 museums and the medieval old town. *Huningue or Breisach, if Basel cannot be reached in exceptional cases
6 Breisach 06:00 13:00
The little town of Breisach perches on a steep cliff along the Rhine, to the south-west of the Kaiserstuhl hills. Its main landmark is the cathedral, Münster Sankt Stephan. Set high above the town on a hill, the church overlooks the Rhine valley, housing an impressive collection of artworks. Geldermann, a well-known producer of sparkling wine, is also based here. A visit to Breisach is an absolute must during your Rhine cruise.
7 Mainz 09:00 12:00

You could also visit the city’s main landmark: Saint Martin’s Cathedral. It boasts one of the richest church interiors in the Christian world. With 2,000 years of history, Mainz is not just one of the oldest cities in Germany – it is also a place where you can see history come alive wherever you turn.
