The Rhône rises in the Alps, the Saône in the Vosges—together, these two rivers have formed the backbone of civilization, along which economic and cultural development has flourished. And along which lies one of the most beautiful scenic routes in the world. Magnificent architecture and historical treasures await you on the riverbanks. Then you’ll head to Lyon, where you can enjoy gourmet cuisine, ancient monuments, and a tradition of trade established by the Romans. Downstream, the climate warms up a bit, and Arles welcomes you with its laid-back atmosphere and the charm of Provence. Avignon boasts papal grandeur, and the journey continues past imposing cliffs, fragrant lavender fields, and Provençal villages—all accompanied by the constant song of cicadas. Everyone looks forward to arriving at the enchanting Mediterranean coast.

PREMIUM - Intense Rhône (LUNA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as menus, shipboard announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, shore excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the onboard staff speaks English (and usually German as well).

Lyon – every beautiful cruise on the Rhône begins in Lyon, and there’s a good reason for that: Lyon is a stunning modern city with an impressive Old Town and world-class cuisine. Lyon owes part of its culinary reputation to the acclaimed French chef Paul Bocuse, who made it the headquarters of his empire of brasseries, restaurants, and cafés. The city is known for its simple yet high-quality cuisine, based on regional products, which has earned it the nickname la ville de guele (the city of flavors).

Avignon—you’ve surely heard of the famous bridge from the song—this bridge actually exists, or at least part of it: wars and floods have reduced the bridge’s original 22 arches to 4. In 1660, after another flood, the bridge was abandoned. Besides the bridge, you’ll likely be most enchanted by Avignon’s palaces, wine, and culture. The Papal Palace is monumentally impressive, especially in the evening when it’s lit up.

Chalon-sur-Saône—this small French town is best known as the birthplace of photography—and it’s no wonder. It’s exactly the kind of place that makes you want to capture every moment forever, so you can share it with family and friends and reminisce about it back home. St. Vincent’s Cathedral—located on the square of the same name—is one of the most photographed landmarks. Its main section was built between the 12th and 15th centuries and is a favorite subject for professional and amateur photographers alike, as well as for travelers on river cruises
