A world of wonders created by nature and humankind. The Danube, the queen of rivers, will carry you along its course. Incredible panoramic landscapes and fascinating views of Vienna, Budapest, and Bucharest are strung together like pearls on a string. These vistas tell stories of Romans and emperors, wars and cosmopolitanism. Famous monasteries along the banks show what faith in God has led humanity to achieve. In comparison, the Baroque architecture in the streets of the Danube cities seems almost spartan. In the breathtaking “Iron Gates” of the Carpathians or the mysterious Danube Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, prepare for a true journey into another world.

PREMIUM - To the Danube Delta from Vienna (FLORA)

All cruises are international, meaning that all materials—such as menus, public announcements, etc.—are in English. Similarly, excursions are available with English-speaking guides, and the crew on board speaks English (and usually German as well).

The Iron Gates - are quite possibly the most spectacular gorge in Europe. In the past, this stretch of the Danube was a disaster for many a ship. However, the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in 1971 led to a rise in the water level. This means that today we can enjoy views of a massive canyon leading straight to "Romania’s answer to Norway." Steep, green Carpathian cliffs rise up on both the left and right, dark blue water flows below, and around every bend in the river there’s a reason to pull out your camera.

Wachau - About 80 km west of Vienna lies the Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This valley is lined with steep slopes where some of Europe’s finest grape varieties grow. Amidst this, you’ll pass castles, palaces, and romantic ruins that bear witness to a distant past. In such an enchanting landscape, it’s no wonder that there are many legends about the Wachau, ranging from mythical tales to historical events, including the Napoleonic Wars. Authors such as Josef Wichner and Hans Plöckinger have published collections of these legends—perfect reading material for a visit to the region.

Budapest – On one bank of the Danube lies the hilly Buda with the Fisherman’s Bastion and Castle Hill; on the other, the flat Pest with its monumental Parliament Building. These two distinct parts, so different from one another, were not united until 1873, giving rise to the Budapest we know today.

Bucharest is the capital of Romania and has over 1.8 million inhabitants. It is home to the enormous Palace of Parliament, one of the largest administrative buildings in the world. The city combines historic neighborhoods with modern cafés, parks, and a lively nightlife.

Itinerary

Day Place Arrival Departure
1 Vienna - 19:00
Vienna has a rich history, with its emperors, Elisabeth of Austria and the ostentatious Habsburgs, adding to its fascination. Music also plays a big part of any visit where the First Viennese School of composers Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven were equally inspired by the city. Explore The Hofburg Palace, take a ride on the Riesenrad Ferris Wheel or visit the famous traditional coffee houses. The Austrian capital also produces excellent cuisine, with Wiener schnitzel and Sachertorte worth trying.
1 Bratislava 23:00 -
Bratislava, the youngest capital in Europe, is situated exactly at the point where the country meets Austria and Hungary. This makes it the only capital city in the world that borders more than one neighbouring country. Due to its location, Bratislava has been an ethnic melting pot since ancient times. Cultures meet and merge together. The streets of the old town – lined with well-preserved baroque and rococo city palaces – are filled with the sound of people speaking different languages.

Belgrade is a well-kept secret among Europe’s many metropolises. The capital of the Republic of Serbia, it is the country’s political, cultural and economic centre. It has a population of around 1.7 million, making it the country’s most populous city too. Belgrade’s location makes it a hub for travel between central and south-eastern Europe. During your Danube cruise, you’ll get to experience Belgrade up-close and enjoy this wonderfully varied city.
5 Vidin 18:00 21:00
Right on the banks of the Danube lies the Bulgarian city of Vidin. The history of the city dates back to years before Christ. Perhaps the most famous landmark is the Baba Vida Fortress, the only fully preserved medieval fortress in Bulgaria.

12 Novi Sad 12:00 18:00
The capital of the autonomous province of Vojvodina makes quite an impression, with the mighty Petrovaradin fortress occupying the right bank of the Danube and the picturesque old town of Novi Sad standing atop the left bank.
